Our mountain rescue service is here to help. Birds of Kilimanjaro Rescue Service works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The helicopter is able to fly between the hours of 7:00 till 17:00 daily (weather permitting).

Rescue


We provide helicopter support to Kilimanjaro and Meru climbers. We fly to the highest summit camps on the mountain and are able to carry two passengers. Birds of Kilimanjaro is the fastest evacuation off Kilimanjaro - we can reach any camp on Mount Kilimanjaro in approximately half an hour.

We work around the clock to assist in an emergency. Day or night, weekends and holidays, we understand the importance of being available at all times.

Every year over 30,000 people attempt to reach the peak of the highest mountain in Africa. Although Kilimanjaro boasts an impressive safety record, and most of the expeditions are completed with no concerns, adventure sports and mountain climbing does come with potential risks. In times of emergency, such as serious altitude sickness or an injury is why we have ‘Bird of Kilimanjaro Rescue Services’. When a climbing guide notifies our operator that someone is in need of an emergency rescue, we immediately dispatch a helicopter to pick up a sick or injured person and transport him or her to our special unit at the KCMC hospital in Moshi, one of the best medical facilities in East Africa.


Our helicopter team includes a licensed paramedic and a full medical kit to start medical attention from the moment we reach you. When necessary, the paramedic can administer first-aid and help to transport a sick person straight to the hospital.

The Birds of Kilimanjaro Rescue Services team has experience working on Mount Kilimanjaro for nearly a decade. Our team knows the camps, the routes, emergency evacuation routes and other key locations from practical experience on the mountain. Our emergency coordinators and operators know many of the Kilimanjaro guides personally, making emergency rescue evacuations that much faster and more accurate. We also work closely with the KINAPA (Kilimanjaro National Park) rescue teams and rangers.
