AFTER A RESCUE FLIGHT
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
KCMC (Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center), one of the best hospitals in Tanzania, is located in Moshi, near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Our rescue services are set-up to immediately assess emergency situations and provide medical examinations by our team’s certified paramedic.
If necessary, unwell patients will be taken straight to KCMC hospital by helicopter, where they will be provided more intensive medical attention upon arrival.
Due to its location near Mount Kilimanjaro, KCMC has all required facilities, equipment, and knowledgeable personnel for treating altitude-related disorders and injuries. A private ward of this hospital is permanently reserved for the clients of our company, so that a bed, space and necessary medical staff will be guaranteed for any patient using Birds of Kilimanjaro.
VIP wards
Our customers stay in special VIP wards with extra comfort. Includes: a soft bed, private room, seating area, fridge with drinks and reliable Wi-Fi connectivity.
Fast-track Admission
The clients of our rescue service get fast-track admission to the KCMC hospital and don’t have to stand in line. We will also do all the paperwork for you.
Professional Team
The doctors at KCMC are among the best in the whole of East Africa. A doctor in the hospital and a dedicated paramedic on board of the helicopter attend to our clients.
Modern Equipment
Equipment and facilities of the KCMC rival those of the USA and EU-based hospitals. There is everything needed for the treatment of high-altitude and other disorders.
When compared to other adventure sports or climbing in other regions, Kilimanjaro is a safe destination. Roughly speaking, from over 50,000 climbers who attempt a climb every year, no more than 200 are in need of medical care during or after the trek. These situations largely happen because of inadequate physical preparation or underlying health conditions. It is much more rare for climbers who choose reliable Kilimanjaro climb operators to face emergencies on the mountain, although it is a potential risk. All extreme sports (mountain climbing included) come with some level of risk; for Kilimanjaro expeditions, high-altitude acclimatization transition is one of the top concerns. Acclimatization is a very personal transition for each individual, and the risk cannot be completely mitigated, even with proper preparation and organization on part of the climbing operator and the individual climber.
The trusted doctors at KCMC, and our onboard paramedics are there to minimize the risks of climbing on Mount Kilimanjaro. We provide Birds of Kilimanjaro to help Kilimanjaro climbers who face unexpected emergencies while on the mountain.
Free Wi-Fi
Although internet connectivity is still an issue in most parts of East Africa, we have ensured that there is free, reliable and reasonably-fast connectivity in our special wards at the KCMC hospital. We understand that having an emergency while abroad isn’t just about getting medical attention; you also need to contact your family and friends back home, and may need to make international arrangements, all which requires internet access. We have arranged for internet access in the private room for our clients at KCMC hospital.
